Goes on thick so it will not run, spreads thin as you rub it in, and stays slippery for the whole shave. One dab, no reapplying.

It also happens to be the reason your cartridges last. Almost every shaving cream on the shelf contains Behentrimonium Chloride, Panthenol or Pantothenic Acid. All three oxidize steel, and a blade sitting in them between shaves rusts from the edge in. It took over six months to find replacements that behave on skin and leave the steel alone.

A stripe of OmniShave Butter squeezed from the tube onto a finger

What it does differently

  • Thick coming out of the tube so it does not run or drip, and it spreads thin as you rub it in
  • Starts white so you can see exactly where it has gone, then turns clear as it works in
  • Stays slippery for the whole shave, so there is no stopping to rinse and reapply
  • A quarter-sized dab, about half a teaspoon, is enough for a full shave
  • Doubles as a moisturizer. Leave it on afterwards, or rinse and put a little back on
  • Tea tree, aloe and shea butter to calm the skin, with the scent coming from the tea tree oil

Why not just use shaving cream? Most creams and lotions contain Behentrimonium Chloride, Panthenol or Pantothenic Acid. Those oxidize steel and will rust your blades. OmniShave Butter took over six months to formulate specifically to leave those out, which is why it does not shorten the life of a cartridge the way ordinary cream does.

How to use it

  1. Wet the area you are going to shave.
  2. Squeeze out a dab about the size of a quarter, roughly half a teaspoon, and rub it in. It starts white so you can see where it has gone, and turns clear as it works in.
  3. Shave. It stays slippery the whole way, so there is no stopping to rinse and reapply.
  4. Afterwards, leave the residue on to keep moisturizing, or rinse it off and rub a little fresh butter in.

A little really does go a long way. A 6oz tube at half a teaspoon per shave lasts most people several months, which is worth knowing before you compare it with a can of foam on price.

Common questions

Can I use it with any razor?

Yes. It is not specific to the OmniShaver, and any steel blade benefits from not sitting in an oxidizing cream.

Does it lather?

No, and it is not meant to. Lather is mostly air. This spreads as a thin slippery film, which is what actually reduces drag on the blade.

Do I have to rinse it off?

Only if you want to. Left on, it carries on working as a moisturizer.

Is there a smaller size to try?

Yes. The travel sachets come in a 7 pack and a 30 pack.
